Residents of Kamasielo and Kamusinga villages in Kimilili constituency are a worried lot after a footbridge they were using to cross river Kibisi collapsed due to the ongoing rains pounding the area.
Led by Jacob Silali, the residents said the bridge has been essential and now other activities have been affected since they can’t swim across the dangerous river.
Silali says children normally cross the bridge to go to schools, such as Namakhele and Kamasielo primary schools, saying the children who are young and in kindergarten can’t cross the bridge using the log which has been placed there as a temporary solution.
He added that residents from Kamusinga location have to take their produce to the market at Kamasielo and it has become hard for them to do so as they have to travel for over five kilometers to access another bridge.
His sentiments were echoed by former Kibingei ward MC aspirant Kelvin Wanambisi who called upon Kibingei ward MCA Aggrey Mulongo and his Maeni ward counterpart Florence Fulano Wekesa together with Kimilili MP Didmus Wekesa to help build a permanent bridge that will help them have free connectivity.
He further called upon residents to be careful while crossing the river and help their children to cross over so as to avert any disaster that may arise.
