Safaricom in partnership with Vivo energy has launched a new tool to help tackle inefficiency of cash and reduce LIPA na M-PESA services steps.
The MPESA1Tap which was started way back in 2012 will make transactions simpler by leveraging on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
Addressing the media, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore said that the MPESA1Tap aims at making it easier to make and receive payments.
Currently, data from the Central bank shows mobile payments account for more than 80 percent of cashless payments by value.
The new innovation will also see an easy flow of cash for businessmen in the economic sector.
MPESA1Tap is the faster way to pay with M-PESA since customers are only required to use a card, phone sticker or wristband device that is connected to your M-PESA account, it is a simple one tap, enter pin, and make payments.
For MPESA1Tap services one must have a National Identity Card or a Military ID or a valid Passport or alien ID, He/she must be a registered M-PESA user, the M-PESA Card is only available to individual M-PESA Customers and is not available to M-PESA Pay bill or M-PESA Merchant Customers.
The MPESA1Tap works as follows, the vendor keys in total amount to be paid for the goods or services on the MPESA1Tap point of sale device, customer Taps their MPESA1Tap tag onto the point of sale device, a popup appears on your cell asking for your M-PESA PIN to complete the transaction
You can use your M-PESA Card at any outlet with a Lipa Na Mpesa (LNM) Point of Sale (POS)
M-PESA users need to visit any M-PESA retail shop, agent or authorized dealer to get the tag at no cost. Your card will be paired with your MSISDN in the Safaricom M-PESA Card Management System. After which, you will receive a message on your MSISDN advising you of activation.
This way, the whole MPESA1Tap becomes easier for daily money transaction services.
