Fear and panic gripped Sokomoko village in Ng’enyilel location in Turbo Sub County after a marred body of a man was found dumped along the Webuye-Eldoret highway in the area. According to the residents, the unidentified body was found by school children who were going to school at about 6 o’clock in the morning.
They said no one knew when the incident could’ve occurred and they were shocked by the discovery of the brutally marred body. It is suspected that the man was killed elsewhere and his body was dragged and dumped in the village in the wee hours of the morning.
The body had multiple injuries with a motor vehicle tyre placed at the waist, an indication the assailants had an intention of setting the victim ablaze. “This tyre indicates that they wanted to burn him, maybe they lacked the petrol to set him ablaze,” said a resident.
Confirming the incident, area chief Sammy Tororei said it is suspected that the deceased may have been killed by use of blunt objects, adding that the body had visible injuries on the head, back, shoulders, and the ribs. He added that the body has not been identified.
However, a resident who spoke to West Media on condition of anonymity disclosed that the deceased was a hardcore criminal who had been causing them sleepless nights and was killed on Thursday night by an angry mob after his efforts to steal livestock at Murgus village hit a snag.
“This man is a notorious thief who has been terrorizing us for long, he has been arrested on several occasions and even beaten by a mob and rescued by police but he never changed. Tonight he was caught with others trying to steal livestock from Murgus village where an angry mob descended upon him with all sorts of crude weapons killing him on the
spot before they carried his body to this place,” said the source adding that his accomplices managed to escape.
Police moved the body to Chebaiywa hospital mortuary. Mr. Tororei revealed that investigations had been launched to establish the cause and motive of the murder.
