IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has constituted a new project team which is set to be in charge of the fresh polls on 26th October. The seven-member team doesn’t include CEO Ezra Chiloba, a notable absentee, and three further officials have been replaced from the initial list, including Nancy Kariuki, Bernard Moseti and Silas Rotich. However, Chiloba will retain his role in the polls as the Chief Accounting Officer.
The new Presidential election steering committee is headed by Marjan Hussein who is the project coordinator, David Towett in charge of operations, Albert Gogo in charge of Elections Technology, Dr. Sidney Namulungu in charge of Tallying Centres, Tabitha Mutemi in charge of Communication and Outreach, Salome Oyugi in charge of Legal and Compliance, and Agatha Wahome in charge of Finance, Procurement and Administration.
The IEBC Chairman, while addressing the press after launching a training workshop for returning officers at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi, said the changes were considered after the Supreme Court ruling, and said the new team will be in charge of the polls, “That’s the team that will now push the elections and deliver the 26th October elections. If there is another official they will not take an active role in the elections.”
