Luanda MP Chris Omulele has urged Luanda residents to ignore the repeat polls until Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) carry out the required reforms. Omulele, while addressing Luanda residents, challenged IEBC to carry out the reforms which are being demanded by NASA supporters for them to re-establish the confidence of the electorate.
He said the IEBC is not ready to conduct free and fair elections and what they are doing is pleasing the interests of the Jubilee administration.
Omulele said he will not allow the residents to participate in shoddily prepared elections, saying IEBC is out to frustrate Kenyans.
“I urge my people of Luanda to ignore the fresh presidential elections because the IEBC is under siege. The electoral commission is not prepared to conduct credible elections because it has failed to carry out the required reforms that Kenyans want. The commission is instead partisan, and out to serve the political interests of Jubilee government,” decried Omulele.
The legislators defended the move by National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga to withdraw from the presidential race, “We support the move by Raila Odinga to pull out of the presidential race because currently, IEBC cannot guarantee a credible election. We stand with Raila and say that without reforms there will be no elections,” said Omulele.
This comes after the training of IEBC officers who are set to conduct the elections was disrupted by some youths in Vihiga County. The training was to be conducted under strict security which was provided by the police officers in the various training centres.
Some of the officers in Vihiga failed to attend the training for fear of being victimized by those opposed to fresh polls.
Omulele sentiments come as President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy are expected to tour Vihiga County this week to drum support for their re-election. The President together with his deputy are expected to open Vihiga Huduma Centre among other projects.
