As Kenyans brace for the repeat of the presidential election slated for Thursday 26th October, residents of Bungoma County have been urged to maintain peace before and after the exercise.
Addressing residents of Kapkateny in Mount Elgon constituency, Getry Anguva, the director of transforming the community for social change said Kenya is a great country and the election exercise should not divide Kenyans.
She said as an organization they decided to traverse the lower sides of Mt Elgon constituency to sensitize them on the importance of holding a peaceful election and staying together after the exercise saying life must continue.
“In 2007/2008 we worked in this community and they embraced the spirit of cohesion and integration and we need to further the message during this season so that we may not encounter scenes that were witnessed during that time,” she said.
The director further cautioned politicians against fuelling hate speech among the residents saying they have the sole responsibility of uniting Kenyans during this period.
She added that Kenyans have a right to either participate in the election or not to participate but issues of peace are paramount and need to be maintained.
Among the places they visited include Kapkateny, Chebich, Cheptais and Kimilili where residents turned up in large numbers to hear the message of peace.
