The Athletics Kenya (AK) CEO Mrs Susan Kamau has urged Kenyan athletes to keep away from doping. Speaking in Kapsabet during the AK antidoping campaign that brought together athletes from the North Rift, she told them to cherish honesty and transparency because true winners go about their craft in an untainted way.
She noted that the doping menace has become a major problem for many athletes in the country, and it has become difficult for them to be appreciated because of lingering doubts, and she revealed that AK has a list of seventy suspected athletes who are currently under investigation.
Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot asked the athletes to exercise dignity by ensuring they compete without using performance-enhancing drugs and said they should reveal the ones who depend on doping without fear. She also echoed the CEO’s sentiments, saying the culture has become a taint in the nation’s proud record, adding that the athletes should work hard for their success.
On his part, the Sports and Youth Affairs CEC Elly Kurgat said he will work hard to ensure cartels who are behind the doping cases and performance-enhancing drugs usage are brought to book. He said chemists in Kapsabet town will be put under the microscope to establish those who may be behind the doping business, given that reports indicated the root stability of the vice is in Kapsabet.
