A total of 2,381 out of 2,384 students who registered as candidates for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in Lugari Sub County did their first paper on Monday.
According to the area Sub County Education Director Mrs. Magdalene Igwatai no hitch in terms of transportation or security has been encountered so far as all KCSE papers arrived in all designated exam venues on time and kicked off well.
She said there are a total of 34 examination centres whereby 31 out of them are public schools, 2 private schools and one private centre disclosing that the number of female candidates sitting this year’s examination in the Sub County exceeds that of male candidates.
“The number of female candidates in this year’s examinations is encouraging, we have a total of 1318 female and 1066 boys in our schools,” explained the SCED.
However, she said three candidates at St. Paul’s Lugari Boys High School were absent and missed Monday’s examinations. “Three candidates at Lugari Boys secondary school for reasons not known didn’t turn up for the examination, the management has looked
for them but they are not at home and nobody knows their whereabouts,” said Mrs. Igwatai.
The Sub County Education assured the public that stringent measures had already been put in place in order to curb any forms of irregularities, especially exam cheating.
She urged all examination invigilators, supervisors and security agents to be extra keen in order prevent cases of exam cheating, while at the same time providing a conducive environment for the candidates throughout the exam period.
While praising both parents and teachers for working hard in preparing the candidates, Mrs. Igwatai appealed to all the KCSE candidates from the Sub County to avoid errors of commission or omission that might jeopardize their future dreams.
Elsewhere one candidate failed to seat the examination at Kivaywa Boys secondary school in Matete. According to Matete Sub County education director Mr. Tom Oluoch the
candidate has never attended class since the beginning of the second team after he was taken ill early this year.
