The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in West Pokot County is going on well without hitches in all schools in the whole County. The Ministry of Education has confirmed that all the necessary preparation have been put in place to ensure humble time for the candidates all over the County.
County Education Director Mr. Jared Obiero said that the KCSE exams have started well without any hitches. He said that despite the country coming from the repeat Presidential election the ministry has ensured proper preparation for the national exams.
A total number of 6,078 are doing the exams in 79 centres in the County. Mr. Obiero said that there are weather challenges in the area but did everything has been done to ensure exam papers reach every school. “We are witnessing heavy rainfall in the area but we try our level best to ensure everything is successful,” he said.
A spot check at Kapenguria boys high school Monday showed 243 candidates are sitting for the exam in that school. Kapenguria boys high school head teacher Mr. James Omayo said that his candidates will perform well.
He said that the ongoing politics in the country have not affected candidates. West Pokot County commissioner Mr. Apollo Okello said the County was peaceful and there are maximum security schools within the County. “There security challenges and security officers have been deployed in schools. We have not heard of anything bad,” said Okello.
KNUT secretary in the County Mr. Martin Sembelo has called on the government to beef up security along Pokot-Turkana border to ensure students are able to do their exams. Sembelo called political leaders in the County to put on hold on their political meetings that could interfere with exams.
The KNUT Secretary, however, cautioned teachers participating in the national exams against exams irregularities that may land them in problems. Sembelo called on the invigilators to follow the laid down exam rules.
