With a month left to their annual delegates meeting scheduled in Mombasa, Kakamega County KNUT officials have fronted national assistant chair Wycliffe Omucheyi Etole as the suitable candidate to chair the union.
The officials who are supporting their national secretary general’s Wilson Sossion’s move calling for the immediate chairman Mudzo Nzili’s departure, want Mr. Etole to be given the full mandate to host the delegates meeting next month as the new chairperson.
Speaking in Kakamega, Kakamega County KNUT chair Patrick Chungani, his secretary Nathaniel Shivira and treasurer Mudeizi Julius have unanimously called upon chairman Nzili to abide by the constittuion that demands that in case of retirement, the outgoing chair should step down six months prior to his retirement period and leave room for the incoming chair.
The retiring chairman however is entitled to all his salary and allowances that he used to enjoy while in office till his retirement date matures.
The three have called upon all teachers in the nation to unanimously support Mr. Etole in the position warning the outgoing chairman not to divide the teachers on political lines.
They argued that Sossion was not politically nominated as an MP but by the trade union to represent workers at the national assembly.
They have defended Sossion as their secretary general arguing that their constitution allows him to retain his position even after being nominated as an MP.
Mudzo Nzili had earlier called upon Sossion to step down after being nominated as a member of the national assembly.
