West Pokot County leaders have castigated plans by NASA to swear in opposition leader Raila Odinga if President Uhuru Kenyatta will be sworn in citing that the NASA coalition has lost direction and want to derail the nation’s progressive development after being immersed in a deep political period.
Governor John Lonyangapuo and Senator Samuel Poghisio said NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga boycotted the repeat Presidential elections on 26th October and therefore the coalition should accept defeat.
Lonyangapuo noted that President Kenyatta was victorious in the repeat election and it will be unconstitutional for the NASA camp to swear in Raila Odinga as their president.
“The law is very clear, there is no way they will swear in Raila because he withdrew his candidature for the repeat election, they should stop mere threats and follow the constitution,” he said.
He added that the National Super Alliance camp wants to extend the political narratives and agenda to 2018 without considering the lives of Kenyans, who have been affected by the long political period.
Speaking during a livestock vaccination exercise at Ptoyo in West Pokot Sub County, Lonyangapuo said politics in the country has also affected the pastoral community, condemning police officers for shooting cows in Laikipia county.
Senator Poghisio on his part said the NASA team are not satisfied with the current state of affairs in the country, saying they shouldn’t intervene with the President’s swearing-in plans.
The Senator said the elected leaders should provide services to Kenyans rather than politicizing all development projects.
He added that Kenyans only need peace and there was no need for secessions and other political sideshows. “The two camps should talk so that Kenyans should not suffer at the expense of politicians, the two camps should cool their tempers and forge ahead in developing our country,” he said.
