Public schools urged to benchmark with academies for KCPE improvement

Likuyani Sub County Education Officer, Mr. David Esemele Mwandihi has urged teachers and pupils in public schools to emulate their counterparts in private academies in order to improve academic standards in Likuyani Sub County.
Addressing parents, students and the community during celebrations to mark this year’s Sub County Education Day at Sikulu primary school Mwandihi revealed that private academies had overshadowed public schools after posting good results in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
“Whereas the best public school in the sub county had a mean score of 314 marks, the best private academy recorded a mean of 400 marks,” said Mwandihi who singled out Sikulu Primary and Matunda Fountain Grammar as the best public and private schools respectively in the sub county.
Mwandihi lauded private academies for continuously posting encouraging results and at the same revealed the first 13 positions in last year’s KCPE examination were scooped by academies in the sub county.
The education boss encouraged teachers and pupils in public schools to benchmark with their counterparts in the performing academies so as to improve on KCPE examinations in future.
“This will also go a long way in reducing the performance gap between public and private learning institutions,” he said.
Praising the good working relationships among education stakeholders in Likuyani , Mwandihi generally expressed his delight over the above average result that was produced by schools in the area, which saw the sub county emerge the second best overall in Kakamega County in last year’s KCPE.
