Support Wetangula’s bid to contest as president, residents tell his opponents
By Carren Papai.
The recent statement by Mahiakalo Member of County Assembly Cleophas Malala that Cord co-Principal Senator Moses Masika Wetangula should drop his quest for presidency to support Musalia Mudavadi Of ANC has elicited mixed reactions across Western region with many of his supporters rubbishing off his plea terming it impossible .
Malala who was speaking in Lugari recently called upon Luhya Leaders who have declared their interest for presidential seat to bury their dreams in support of Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress.
Malala a vocal MCA, termed Mudavadi as a veteran in politics who should be supported by the likes of Senator Wetangula and Cyrus Jirongo who have so far made public their mission to vie for presidential race in the coming elections .
In a hot debate on a Daily West Fm radio talk show ‘’Suala Nyeti”, a majority of listeners compare Malala’s sentiments to a dream that will never come through saying all Contestants have equal rights before the law to vie for any seat since Kenya is democratic republic.
John Masai Abisai from Mwibale, said that Wetangula has been at the forefront advocating for reforms and his wide role in Oppositions has yielded fruits .
“We appeal to Mudavadi and Jirongo to drop their bid and Support Wetangula who has been championing the interest of Westerners in the Senate,” He said noting that Mudavadi has never raced for presidential seat to the end and has failed his people by quitting the race at the end .
Matope Robert from Kitale echoed Masai’s sentiments calling Mudavadi a coward whose stand to vie for presidency is unpredictable in the sense that he has never stood firm but instead work with opponents at the end .
“How many times Mudavadi has betrayed his people by quitting and support the opponent at last, he must this time support Wetangula to becoming the head of state.
Dan Carzola stated it is time for the Luhya leaders to come together ,shun personal interests and support one in order to carry the day.
“Many politicians have before contested for presidency and someone like Mudavadi has even become the Deputy president but our region is still lagging behind development and such leaders should not be given another chance.” he added .
Dickteta from Eldoret, challenged voters from Western to come to an agreement and support one of their own and shun the long sang song “Luhya Unity” pointing out the area will never realize the fruits of devolution until they will come together to support one of them.
However Ben Munoko from Kwanza Boys High School in Transnzoia, rubbished of sentiments from people supporting Wetangula saying Mudavadi is a veteran political brain that must be supported in the coming race for the region to realize changes .
“Mudavadi has enough experience in politics, and his rivals should support him this time round to take the day”, noted Munoko blaming cheap politics and personal interests among Western leaders on the rambling Luhya Unity.
As the state is looking forward to go to the polls the coming year, it is wisdom of not prudent for the leaders to ensure massive sensitization to the locals concerning voter registration as well push them to go out in large numbers to vote in their leaders .
Furthermore, empowering the locals, especially youth and women must be the key factor at this point lest the quest by western leaders to become the president of the Kenyan republic will forever remain a dream
