Two people died on Monday evening following a grisly road accident involving a motorbike and a lorry near Chimoi trading centre along the busy Eldoret-Webuye highway in Matete.
Confirming the incident, Lwandeti location assistant chief Joseph Chetambe said the accident occurred when the motorbike rider who was over speeding down the Chimoi slope was unable to keep control before leading to a head on collision with the lorry that was coming from opposite direction.
He said the rider was carrying a passenger from Kabrengu heading towards Lwandeti and the lorry was travelling from Lwandeti towards Kabrengu when the tragedy occurred at about 4 pm.
The motorcyclist died on the spot while the passenger was rushed to Chimoi dispensary before being transferred to Lugulu mission hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The bodies were taken to Webuye Sub County hospital mortuary in the neighbouring Bungoma County for postmortem.
Chetambe appealed to road users, especially motorists, to be extra careful while descending on both sides of the steep Chimoi slope which he classified as one of the many black spots along the Nairobi-Malaba highway.
The incident occurred merely 24 hours after a similar one where a boda boda operator died on the spot on Sunday evening while his two passengers escaped with injuries after ramming into the rear of a Matatu at Musembe few kilometres from Chimoi.
