The National Government in conjunction with Vihiga County government kicked off a deworming exercise targeting children between the ages of 2 and 14. According to the County Director of Health Quido Ahinduka, they are targeting about 220,000 children in the 25 wards in the county.
“Our health officials are on the ground in various centres and schools to conduct the one-day exercise targeting children between the ages of 2-15,” said Ahinduka.
He added that Western region, especially Vihiga county, has had many cases of children suffering from worm related diseases.
Ahinduka appealed to the locals to visit designated centres and ensure their children are in school so that they can be dewormed.
He said the plan is to ensure the children are healthy and to protect them from diseases caused by worms.
Ahinduka was speaking in his office at the County headquarters before heading to the centres to oversee the exercise.
At the same time, Area County director of Education Victoria Mulili has also called on head teachers to ensure water is available in schools for children to use after visiting the toilets.
