ANC Party Primaries’ winners have been announced in Trans Nzoia County with several leaders securing tickets for various positions. The County MP position was won by Immaculate Shamalla who garnered 12,498 and her rival Esther Koli had 6,951 votes.
However, former Cherangany MP and Minister for Agriculture Kipruto arap Kirwa was given a direct ticket for he had no competitor, with Kiminini MP aspirant Peter Kusimba and Kwanza’s Nick Biketi also getting direct nominations in the ANC primaries.
However, elections in Cherangany MP positions will be announced later as vote counting was still going on.
Earlier, residents had turned up in large numbers to participate in the democratic process but returned home after finding out that the ballot boxes had not been delivered in several sub-counties
They blamed the Party Elections Board for failure to make sure that the exercise kicks off at the stipulated time as they were told by their leaders, arguing that they had wasted a lot of time travelling to polling stations to participate in the exercise, only to find there were no election materials.
At Kiminini, a scuffle ensued between supporters of Immaculate Shamalla and supporters of Susan Wekesa, after allegations of voter bribery. Police intervened and calmed the situation.
Moreover, security has been beefed up in several Counties after witnessed acts of hooliganism in some regions during party primaries, with ballot papers and other voting material burnt in some Counties, including Trans Nzoia.
