Regional Athletics Kenya Coach John Chumo has warned athletes in Nandi to be wary of conmen who pretend to give them assistance when it comes to securing races abroad.
Speaking to West Media in Kapsabet town, Chumo said there have been such cases in Nandi where athletes have been conned a lot of money after being deceived they’ll participate in races abroad.
He called upon the athletes to strictly adhere to the Athletics Kenya timetable from either the national or county AK offices, and not from strangers or people they don’t know.
Concerning the sporting events’ calendar for the month of February, the coach urged the athletes to prepare well for the cross country race which will be held during the weekend at Mosoriot Teachers Training college as a selection race for the national team which will represent the country this March at the world cross country in Uganda.
The race consists of four categories which include;
6km Junior women
8km Junior Men
8km Senior Women
10km Senior Men
He said the preparation for the World U17 which will be held in August this year in Nairobi is underway.
The coach appealed to the county government of Nandi to speed up the facelift of Kipchoge Keino stadium in Kapsabet for the athletes to start training as it’s cumbersome for them to train along the roads.
He added that since Kipchoge Keino stadium is under renovation athletes in Nandi have been forced to train at Baraton and Chepkoilel in Eldoret which is costly.
