Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s parliamentary seat win has been nullified by the High Court. Making the ruling on Friday morning, Justice Joseph Sergon said the election was marred by irregularities and errors. The petition that led to the nullification was filed by Francis Mureithi, and a vote recount had already been done, with Babu Owino garnering more votes than Mureithi.
After the ruling, Babu said it’s evident that he is in a tussle against President Uhuru Kenyatta, “The whole nation knows this is a war between the President, the Deputy President against Babu Owino. It’s not news that I’ve been opposing the government because the government wasn’t legitimately elected by the people of Kenya,” he said.
He said the executive arm of government has meddled with the operations of the government, “It’s sad that the executive arm of the government is controlling and manipulating the Judiciary. The Judge asked for a recount which is rare under normal circumstances but we still won with a big margin,” said Babu.
However, he said he will appeal the decision, adding that even if more opponents are added to the competition, he can still win the parliamentary seat comfortably, “I am strong and can’t be brought down easily,” he said.
