Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Belio Kipsang’ today made impromptu visits to various schools in Vihiga county.
Kipsang’ also toured Sabatia County headquarters where KCSE examination papers are stored to check if they had been tampered with and how the exercise was being carried out.
He said the Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi was leading the pack and he was in Muranga County earlier in the day as the KCSE kicked off across the Country.
The move is seen as a way of curbing increased exam cheating that has been rampant in most of the Schools, a vice the Ministry has vowed to fight.
He said there were few incidences of exam malpractices in the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and 11 teachers who were involved were interdicted.
“As a ministry, we are not going to relent on this, those found to have been involved in exam malpractices will face the full force of the law,” Belio said.
He said they are determined to restore examination integrity in the country and they will not allow anyone to peg them back.
Kipsang’ visited Chavakali High School where he witnessed the commencement of the exam and how the exercise was being carried out.
The School Principal Kakhi Indimuli, who is also the Vice Chairman of Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESHA), said they are ready to work with the ministry to ensure there are zero exam malpractices in schools.
“We as the Heads of the Schools in the Country we sat and agreed to work with various stakeholders involved to end this vice” Said Indimuli.
