Bodaboda riders in Makutano, Kapenguria township demonstrated over what they termed as bad leadership and corruption by their leaders.
The more than two hundred bodaboda riders accused their officials for being corrupt, lacking transparency, misusing of power and using dictatorship in their leadership.
They said that last weekend they worked after given a contract by area politicians and the chairman went away with all the cash.
The operators who later converged in Makutano stadium faulted their Chairman Mr. Samson Kosgei for short changing them by not giving them money after working.
“The chairman has not been looking for solutions to our problems but instead leads us to demonstrate. One can not be eating on our behalf. We need to have a sound minded leader,” said Mr. Anthony Barasa one of the bodabodas.
They said the chairman has been denying them their dues after performing duties.
“He takes all the cash and we don’t get anything after all day working,” said Peter Kachipa, another bodaboda rider.
Chanting slogans of “Chaiman must Go” and singing songs the riders accused the chairman for performing all duties and eliminating other officials.
“He is chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. He is does not even ride now days but he keeps on eating our sweat,“ said Joseph Ekiru.
The bodaboda riders called on the county government to built for them shades and stage for them to work effectively.
They accused the Kapenguria OCS Mr. Vitallis Ochido for being biased especially in events of accidents where the bodaboda riders are involved.
“Every time an accident happens, a bodaboda rider is mistaken that he does have a driving licence,” said Ekiru.
The bodaboda riders disbanded the officials committee hence decided to conduct elections using the mlolongo style to elect new officials.
