Mr. Joshua Chepchieng is now the new Bungoma County chief in charge of Security; he takes over from Commissioner Mr. Maalim Mohammed who has been transferred to Mombasa County.
Speaking to the media as he handed over the office, Maalim urged the new commissioner to use much of his efforts to Mt. Elgon land issues and the SLDF remnants.
“Just take care of what we started in Mt. Elgon, I have no regrets to make for what I have done in Bungoma, I came in when Bungoma was burning the issue of Kikwechi killings and Bodaboda, it was tough but we have contained the situation” he added.
“I urge you to engage the media, because this county has the most vibrant media, they will call you even at night to confirm allegations and happenings which is ok, for them not to speculate you engage them so you must have answered all the time” he said.
He said he is ready to deal with the groups that disturb in Mombasa saying he will work and leave the place better than he finds, saying he will work with the political leadership.
“I am sure those groups are not tougher than the SLDF but because I am a team player then I will work in line with our vision in the ministry of interior, I will be able to head on manage them i believe in myself” he added.
He said Bungoma people are vibrant and well informed what he termed as a major advantage to this county telling the new county commissioner to be ahead of the people of the county even using social media platforms.
He said most of the deputy county commissioners are almost all new but said they know their work well; he thanked the local media for preaching peace in the area, as he appealed to all the stakeholders and the residents to cooperate with the new county commissioner to interact and work with the county government.
Mr. Chepchieng said he has a working experience of 25 years in public administration and that he has nothing to quarrel with anyone but promised to work with everyone including the leadership.
“We have no reason not to deliver, count on our cooperation, what we will do here is not new,” he said.
He said the press in Bungoma is doing well citing the issue of the man who hitched on a moving plane saying it was not easy to capture the happenings.
