Busia County Assembly and former vice chairman of the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya Gabriel Mukele joined in mourning the sudden death of the former Legal Advisor to the Governor Hon. Justice (rtd) Alex George Eluri Etyang.
Speaking on behalf of all house committee members, Deputy Speaker Lawrence Okaale send condolence message to family and friends of the deceased following the death of Justice Etyang.
Okaale said the members are mourning the untimely death of a brilliant legal mind whose distinguished services in the legal field that spans over four decades will be remembered for many years to come.
“We are standing with the family of the Governor’s former legal advisor who was dedicated to his work. It is a big blow to the legal fraternity and Kenyans at large,” he said.
Mukele said as a pioneer lawyer in Western with the likes of John Khaminwa, Justice Juma and Sibi Okumu, described the late Etyang as brilliant, faithful and dedicated to his work, adding that his death is unfortunate with no right of appeal.
The late Justice Etyang collapsed during a funeral committee meeting he was chairing of Prof Moses Imo of Eldoret University. He was rushed to Amukura Mission hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Justice Etyang was sworn in as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1973 by Chief Justice Sir James Wicks. He worked as State Counsel between 1973 and 1979 in Nyeri and Kisumu. Between 1980 and 1987 he was provincial state counsel in charge of Rift Valley Province where he rose to Senior state counsel, Principal state counsel.
He moved to Attorney General’s Chamber after being promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions. In 1995 he was appointed and sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of Kenya where he worked as Resident Judge Meru, Eldoret and Mombasa before retiring in 2003 after serving as a judge for eight years.
In 2005, Justice Etyang registered his law firm of A.G.A Etyang and Company Advocates whose head office is in Eldoret.
