Busia bodabodas urged to observe time limits
Bodaboda operators in Busia county have been advised to adhere to normal operating hours stipulated by the police.
Busia County bodaboda operators chairman Eric Makokha said this will help reduce and/or avert cases of the operators being attacked by thugs at night.
“I appeal to the operators to observe the normal operating hours we agreed with the police of up to 10. pm at night. There is no need of operating beyond that time looking for extra cash and you land into problems.”
He said this after a bodaboda operator was attacked and seriously injured by thugs in Busia town at night.
The robbers whose number is unknown made away with his motorbike.
The operator, Charles Eloge, 22, from Amerikwai estate in Busia town was found lying on the road at Burumba estate Wednesday morning in critical state with cuts all over his body.
He was taken to Busia County Referral hospital but passed on Friday morning while undergoing treatment.
He is survived with one wife and one child.
Makokha also called on the police to beef up security in the town.
“Our police officers should come out to protect us against robbers who kill our colleagues mercilessly and steal motorbikes.”
The chairman revealed that many operators have been killed so far by thugs in a brutal way and their motorbikes taken away never to be traced.
“We have buried many operators who have been killed by criminals in Busia town and other parts of the county. Motorbikes totaling to hundreds have also been stolen.” noted Makokha.
