Busia Olympics FC and Bulemia Ladies are the new Mama Ni Mmoja soccer champions after beating their opponents in the finals played at Malaba Township Primary School in Teso North Sub County on Sunday.
Olympics were crowned champions after beating Malaba Boca Juniors 2-0 with Geoffrey Ouma scoring a brace. Bulemia Ladies lifted the diadem after beating Kodedema from Teso South 2-0. Wilkister Wesonga scored both goals.
Boca team manager Ali Bachu stormed the pitch protesting against referee Abubakar Karani’s decision to allow an injured player and a substitute for the second injured player to come in at the same time.
The TM had a misconception that the referee was biased against Boca Junior by allowing the two players to come in concurrently, a decision which was seen as within the laws of the game by the match commissioner Solomon Itubo.
Busia women Representative Florence Mutua, the tournament sponsor, her Vihiga Counterpart, Dorcas Kedogo, Members of the national Assembly John Mbandi (Suba) and Raphael Otalo (Lurambi) and Busia First Lady Judy Ojaamong graced the occasion.
Olympics secured a place in the final after beating Young Muslims 1-0 in the semi-finals. Boca beat Butula Elephants 5-4 on penalties in the other semis after the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Mbandi was happy with the standard displayed by both men and women’s team saying the County has the potential to produce world beaters if the players’ potential were tapped.
Mutua said Super Sport have promised to sponsor three male players from the County who will emerge the best in Mama Ni Mmoja tournament.
Malaba Central MCA Ishmael Orodi said he has set aside Sh1.2 million from the ward fund to sponsor sports activities in his Ward. He promised Boca Junior a set of uniforms and boots and new nets at Malaba Primary school playing ground.
