The first tarmac road in Malaba Town Teso North Sub County, courtesy of the Busia County government, has been opened to motorists. The Junction-Malaba Dispensary-Uplands Resort-Highway road has given the border town a facelift with motorists heading to Malaba Town or Amagoro using it to avoid the long queues along the Northern corridor from Kajei area.
Malaba residents have thanked the Busia County government for upgrading six roads to bitumen standards in Malaba saying the move was a confirmation that devolution has taken root in the County.
“The completion of designated roads in Malaba will raise the profile of the border town. This is also a confirmation that the administration has scored big in infrastructure development contrary to sceptics,” Joseph Koi, who is a Busia resident said.
In Malaba, other roads that have been tarmacked include Malaba primary-Garden Park- Email Hotel Junction, Full Gospel Church-Highway, Highway-Serengeti-Junction, Hyper Bar-KRA Quarters-Slaughter and Mixed Day Junction-Ateker House-Highway.
In Busia, the exercise is on-going at Highway-Governor’s Office-Huduma Center-Soko Posta- Port Victoria Plaza-Farm View Hotel, Port Victoria Plaza-Junction-Catholic Church-Referral Hospital-Tesia Supermarket-Highway, St. Joseph Girls sign post junction-Full Gospel Church-St Mathias-Market and St Mathias Junction-Highway taxi park-John Studio-Highway.
County Executive Committee Member for Public Works, Bernard Yaite said over Ksh 360million has been budgeted for phase two of the project.
