Vihiga County is one of the Counties that is experiencing heavy rainfall in the country. Abraham Changara the County Meteorological Officer said the heavy downpour will continue for the next coming few weeks.
He cautioned residents that the heavy rains might cause landslides in some areas in the County.
Changara singled out areas like Gimariani and Ivola in Hamisi Sub County that are likely to experience excessive soil erosion and landslides because of the nature of the terrain in those places.
He added that they have advised people living near those areas to vacate and move to higher grounds.
“We have cautioned the locals living in the said areas to move to higher grounds in case of any eventuality, they are the places most likely to experience this,” said Changara.
He condemned residents who are practising farming along river banks citing massive soil erosions during the heavy downpour.
