Heavy rains continue pounding different regions in the country, and flooding has been witnessed in some places. Two children aged between five and four years were swept by floods in Songok sub location West Pokot county after heavy rains pondered the area.
Confirming the incident the area chief Joseph Korkimul said the bodies of the two children a boy and a girl were recovered after the rains later in the evening when their parents had begun looking for them.
He said when the rains began the children were in the farm and decided to shelter under a tree and were not aware if the rains would prevail.
“It’s been raining heavily in the area but we have not experienced such incidents that result to deaths. We have just been experiencing thunderstorms and heavy winds which destroy trees,” he said.
He said the children were young and they could not think of going home before the rains increased.
Their mother Mrs. Chepchokai Nakori said she assumed the kids had gone to the neighbouring home to shelter only to discover their bodies later swept by floods.
“Am mourning my only children, I hadn’t given birth for ten years since I was married because I had complications. They were my only hope,” said the Mother.
