Chief Justice David Maraga has said the construction of a High Court in Kakamega will help to ease congestion and ease operations in the County. Speaking in Kakamega on Monday during a tour of the construction site, he outlined the importance of constructing the modern building, “The Governor has said how there is congestion in the courts here, no wonder we looked for funding from World Bank to construct the modern court here,” said the CJ. This is the third High Court construction that has been sanctioned this year.
The construction will cost Kshs 388 million and the whole building will house eight courts, Judges’ offices, other offices like the registry, office of the prosecutors, robing room for lawyers and even a room for lactating mothers. CJ Maraga urged Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who was present at the function, to keep a close eye on the progress of construction, “This building is beings et up for your people so you can look around and ensure this construction is going on well,” he said.
