Bungoma County MCAs are in the process of constituting committees that will be headed by different members and already the several powerful committees have drawn competition among the several members.
Soysambu/Mitua ward member of the County assembly Stephen Wafula Wamalwa has called upon those that will be successfully picked to chair the various committees to ensure they perform to the best of their abilities.
He said he hopes he will be selected to be part of the national MCAs forum which normally has two representatives from each County assembly, each from the majority and minority side of the house that will push for their interests at the national level.
He said the various committees of the County assembly are important as they will directly impact the lives of the residents and as they are waiting to benefit from the devolution funds that are disbursed to Counties each financial year.
Those who have already been picked include Joan Lutukayi (Naitiri) public administration/ICT, Barasa Mukhongo (Chwele) Finance, Milliah Masungo (Misikhu) Education, Antony Lusenaka (Bukembe west) Agriculture, Jack Kawa (Bokoli) Roads, David Barasa (Kimilili) Tourism, Violet Makhanu (Mihuu) Gender, Sifuna Wamalwa (Bumula) Lands, Elvis Abuka (Milima) Housing among others.
Other seats up for grabs include the Public Accounts Committee that will be chaired by a member from the minority side and leaders who have shown interest include Kibingei MCA Aggrey Mulongo and Charles Nangulu of Namwela ward.
Hon. Wamalwa also called upon residents to maintain peace ahead of the repeat of presidential polls to be held on 26th October saying they will have the last say on whom to elect.
He, however, called upon residents of Bungoma County to be keen and vote for one leader saying previously the sharp divisions and voting for different candidates had been their Achilles heel, saying residents shouldn’t give in to dissenting influences.
