Cabinet secretary (CS) for Education, Science and Technology Fred Matiang’i today made an impromptu visit to various schools in Vihiga county.
Matiang’i also toured Sub County headquarters where examination papers are stored to check if they had been tampered with.
The move is seen as a way of curbing increased exam cheating witnessed in various schools that the cabinet secretary has vowed to fight.
The CS who wanted to keep low profile visited Kilingili (Emuhaya Sub County), Shalom academy (Vihiga sub -county) and Chango primary school (Vihiga Sub County).
It seems Matiang’i’s intention was to get education officials and teachers off guard as Kenya certificate of primary education (KCPE) exams kicks off today countrywide.
It is not the first time the CS has caught education officials off guard, last time when principals charged exorbitant fees not recognized by the Ministry, he made several spontaneous visits.
Journalist had hectic time chasing the Matiang’i who was accompanied by senior government officials and security detail.
