Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri has hit out at Aldai MP Cornelius Serem after he linked a company linked to Muhoho Kenyatta, Protech Investment Limited, to duty free sugar importation into the country. CS Kiunjuri said the war against corruption shouldn’t be politicized, there should be no maligning others and misrepresenting reports, “and misleading Kenyans by deliberately distorting information by misusing the privileges of the offices we hold,” he said.
The claim was made by the Aldai MP on Tuesday before the joint Agriculture, Trade committee-which is probing the contraband sugar saga-who said the reason Interior CS Fred Matiang’i never appeared before the committee was because of he was afraid, given that Protech Investment Limited was part of the list.
However, CS Kiunjuri has rubbished the claims, saying in the list tabled before the joint committee, not all companies utilized the gazetted window to import duty free sugar last year, “In fact, the sensational claims by the MP for Aldai that the company he chose to single out of the list of 370 registered for Brown and mill/white sugar importation as having imported the sugar under investigation is not only false, misleading, malicious, but also mischievous,” he said.
He insisted that Protech Investment Limited, has never imported any type of sugar. “I am surprised that the name of the company is appearing on the list despite the owner never receiving communication after they applied in 2011 that they were registered.”
