Former Ford Kenya officials have promised to support President Uhuru Kenyatta after decamping to Jubilee. Speaking in Kiminini, the officials, led by Trans Nzoia County secretary general Martin Waliaula together with the party women leader Sorophine Masakari said they deserted Ford Kenya because of the lack of internal democracy that has affected working relations between the party’s top brass and leaders at the grassroots level.
Waliaula said the Luhya community hasn’t benefitted from Ford Kenya, “Mr President, we as Luhyas we haven’t benefitted from the Ford Kenya leadership,” he said, adding that during the tenure of the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta there was tangible development in the community.
On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta lauded the defectors for joining Jubilee, and said they’ll work together to boost the lives of citizens, “Through your able Secretary General, I thank you for joining the ruling party, and I assure you that the ruling party encompasses al tribes given that it’s a national party,” said the President.
He said Kenyans should come together and live in peace and unity irrespective of their party affiliations. After receiving the defectors they attended a mammoth rally at Saboti and urged supporters to turn up in large numbers and vote for them on October 26th.
He castigated NASA leader Raila Odinga for his continued push for mass action despite withdrawing from the presidential polls. He said the opposition leaders are just interested in creating rifts and divisions among Kenyans. He further assured residents of security in the polls and warned the culprits who might want to cause havoc against doing so, saying there will be dire consequences.
Some of the leaders who accompanied the President and his deputy included Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Trans Nzoia woman representative Janet Nangabo, Trans Nzoia Senator Dr. Michael Mbito, Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose, Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, former Webuye MP Musikari Kombo, former Kwanza MP Noah Wekesa among others.
