Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has refuted calls for the Luhya community to be united under one political umbrella, saying what people need at the moment is unity of purpose. Speaking outside Parliament buildings on Tuesday, the Kimilili MP said what Western Kenya residents need at the moment is solutions to the problems they face, “If you see people like Musalia Mudavadi claiming they want Luhya unity, it’s unity for what purpose?” he posed, “Luhyas are already united and what we need is people who will provide solutions for the people of Mulembe nation.”
Didmus said there is no time for leaders to go round selling a particular outfit because the current hour should be dedicated to solving the problems people have, adding that all one needs is the confidence of the electorate, “Once the people have confidence in you, that you can provide solutions to the problems they face, then they’ll unite and gather around you. But even if you move around for one year but you have no agenda to support the community, or to provide solutions then you can’t get anywhere.”
Didmus once again voiced his support for unity that guarantees solutions for the problems and challenges facing Luhya community, instead of a politically targeted unity which won’t accomplish anything at the moment, “What difference will Musalia bring to Western Kenya at the moment yet he was a minister serving for many years?” he posed. He reiterated that a united front without an agenda won’t be fruitful.
