The funeral mass of the late 82-year-old mama Dinah Nasike, Mother to Likuyani MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchi, was disrupted after irate supporters of Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka clashed with those supporting Kakamega senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale after he accused Governor Lusaka of ferrying people using County money to state house and the deputy president’s home.
Senator Khalwale was forced to cut short his speech as mourners scampered for safety as others sustained minor injuries after irate youths in support of governor Lusaka charged towards him accusing him of peddling malicious rumors against the governor saying he is fond of coming to disrupt functions in Bungoma County yet he is an outsider.
The senator had earlier asserted that western Kenya is not ready to join Jubilee party and some leaders should stop misleading the public with insinuations that it is only by joining the government that they will be able achieve development.
He said as a Luhya nation it is capable of producing and nurturing their own leader to be on the top of the game saying those leaders calling upon residents to support Jubilee government are not genuine and should retrieve their support and have one of their own be supported.
However, Bungoma governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka condemned the awful incident at the funeral and called upon Dr. Bonny Khalwale to desist from using funeral gatherings to peddle propaganda and instead condole with the family.
“It is very unfortunate for what has happened here and I condemn the incident in strongest terms possible, we came to condole with the family, we should not use such gatherings to spread such malicious propaganda,” he said
Luhya Unity
On his part, Dr. Kibunguchi had proposed for the top Luhyia leaders with intentions of vying for the top seat in the country to be subjected to public scrutiny and have one of them be endorsed to run for presidency as opposed to having a few members in hotels gather to choose one.
He said the proposal is fair saying the previous ones by COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli of sitting in hotels is not viable as they will eventually not agree to one candidate is it has been witnessed previously.
“We have Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Cyrus Jirongo who are deemed top leaders in Luhyia land, therefore, they should undergo the public scrutiny and have one of them eventually be endorsed by the Luhyia nation and will have full support of the electorates,” he said.
However, he accused some leaders’ from the region who folded up their parties to join jubilee party saying it was a wrong move since they will not be able to bargain fully for the benefit of their people since the party has its owners.
He said ford Kenya party under the stewardship of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula should be embraced in order to have a strong support base so as to help him ascend to power in the country.
Many who eulogized the late mama Dinah termed her as a hardworking woman who inspired them to work hard in whatever they did as well as had a strong will to have them pursue education saying her contribution will be greatly missed in the society. She left behind five children, twenty-five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
