Doctors in Nandi county have gone back to work after the nationwide doctors strike was called off. This is after a deal was struck between the top Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union(KMPDU) and the government.
Normal duty has resumed at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, as doctors arrived very early this morning ready to discharge their duties.
It’s a relief for patients countrywide as the strike had left them with no hope, especially those who couldn’t afford private healthcare services.
The medics’ strike, which lasted 100 days, had placed the health sector under a tight starin, with concerted efforts from the Law Society of Kenya, KNCHR and religious leaders to help in negotiations.
KMPDU officials were sentenced to a month in jail due to contempt of Court during the course of the strike, but were later released after the case was presented before the Court of Appeal.
