Deputy President William Ruto has distanced himself claims that he is the most corrupt leader in Kenya. This comes after an opinion poll conducted by IPSOS ranked the Deputy President as the most corrupt, at 33% followed by Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru at 31%. The research was conducted between July 25 and August 2 with a sample size of 2016. Participants aged above 18 years were drawn from both urban and rural areas.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia County on Friday where he launched road projects, DP Ruto said his competitors should focus on development issues, “I want to urge my competitors, once they are done with peddling fake news and fake opinion polls, they should avail themselves to compete on development issues,” he said.
Other leaders who accompanied the Deputy President in his Trans Nzoia tour supported his sentiment and castigated the IPSOS opinion poll. “I want to tell the opinion poll trickster, that we know you have been bribed,” said Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, “That money you were given, you would’ve come to me and I would’ve given you some if that was your need.” The Kapseret MP said DP Ruto supported President Kenyatta before and he wasn’t labelled a thief, but now that he has declared his ambition, he has been labelled a thief, “You can’t block us and we’ll reach our destination,” he said.
Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny said the signs that DP Ruto will take the country’s top seat are evident and he needs to be well protected.
The Deputy President launched the 52-kilometre Lessos-Chepchoina road that will link Kitale and Kwanza in Trans Nzoia County and Tartar in West Pokot County at Namanjala in Trans Nzoia County. He also inspected ongoing construction and equipping of a bull station at Endebess and attended the thanksgiving ceremony of Endebess MP Robert Pukose. He also launched the 50-kilometre Moi’s Bridge-Moiben river-Makutano/Kaplamai-Maili Kumi na Moja road at Cherangany in Trans Nzoia.
