President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to work with the Ministry of Health to ensure that all 3 million Secondary School children are enrolled into the NHIF program from January 2018, as part of the Big Four development agenda, which also has a pillar covering healthcare.
While briefing the President on this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2017 (KCSE) results CS Matiang’i, who was accompanied by the head of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Prof. George Magoha and ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, discussed the exam reforms, with a normal curve in results being evident. The President directed the Education CS and Prof. Magoha to institutionalise the reforms so that the achievement made in the last few years is maintained.
On the issue of exam irregularities, President Kenyatta directed CS Matiang’i to work with Attorney General Githu Muigai to make presentations to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) so that cases of cheating involving more than 700 teachers countrywide are expedited.
