8 perish in a grisly road accident at Shaviringa
Eight passengers yesterday night perished in a grisly road accident involving a Nissan Matatu and a Lorry along Chavakali-Kapsabet road at shaviringa, Hamisi Sub County.
Six passengers and the driver of the lorry died on the spot and another died while undergoing treatment at Vihiga district hospital.
According to an eye witness, the matatu was speeding and was overloaded during the Thursday 8 pm incident.
A police officer at the scene who is not allowed to speak to the press said those who were injured at the scene were rushed to Kaimosi health centre and Vihiga county referral hospital.
The accident caused a snarl up along the road as police officers with the help of good Samaritans tried to clear the accident scene.
The bodies of the seven passengers were taken to County Referral Hospital at Mbale.

Vihiga Medical officer Emmanuel Ayodi said they received 17 patients who had severe head injuries and multiple fractures on arms and legs.
He said the patients are in stable condition and would be discharged after further evaluation and management within 24 hours.
“A team of surgeons are acting on the patients with severe head injuries before they are released,” said Ayodi.
Ayodi said three patients have been discharged and one referred to Kisumu for a scan after sustaining severe head injuries
The medic was speaking Friday at the facility in Mbale town.
