Families displaced in Trans Nzoia as a result of floods caused by river Sabwani breaking its banks had a reason to smile when Bishop Edwin Khaoya, from Grace of Covenant Church visited them and took some of their children to give them shelter in his church at Kibomet.
Bishop Khaoya said his church took the initiative following the floods that has left the residents homeless.
He said they saw it wise to take the children and give them shelter which is more essential to them as they are more vulnerable to infections and diseases because of the hash conditions they are living into.
“We saw it wise as a church to house the children of these displaced families which is affected by the floods so that we try to accommodate them as well as give them spiritual food, the word of God as a way of trying to counsel them,” said Bishop Khaoya.
He said other than giving shelter to the children of displaced families, as a church, they have also put emphasis in encouraging the families affected by floods that are now camping at Namanjalala shopping center by giving them some biblical nourishment so that as a group they don’t engage in other unlawful acts at the center.
A parent, Jane Wafula said she was happy that Bishop Khaoya has taken their children to house them since the environment they are staying is not conducive.
Earlier on the County Government of Trans Nzoia headed by Governor Khaemba together with Red cross team Trans Nzoia county under the chairmanship of Ronald Masindano had visited the area and contributed to the families some food stuffs, blankets and cooking kits worth Ksh. 5,000.000.
The Red cross chairman Ronald Masindano said they are working together with the county government in seeing that all affected by floods are taken good care of and are weary that some communicable diseases might arise and are well set to tackle such challenges.
He appealed to them to observe high levels of hygiene and report any cases of sickness they may notice immediately to the team so that it is tackled without haste.
