Agricultural officer for Maraka ward Webuye East Costituency Edna Barasa has urged farmers that benefited from the subsidized fertilizer that was offered by the county government of Bungoma to use it well so as they can get enough harvest that will enable them overcome hunger.
Speaking while in the Maraka ward MCA’s office in a function of giving out the fertilizer to farmers Mrs. Barasa said that agricultural officers from that region will inspect farms to make sure that farmers get enough harvest this year.
“It is my plea to farmers that if you have got the subsidized fertilizer and maize go use it to plant in your farms that you have told me that they are ready. We have plans of doing follow ups, I as an agricultural officer I will do that to make sure you have planted the maize and maintain fully so as to get good harvest,” uttered Mrs. Barasa.
Project leader from Maraka ward Josephat Munanda and the chairman of agricultural committee George Mutenyo appreciated the project saying that it will really help in reducing poverty in that region.
“My advice to farmers is that what you make sure that you plant and apply the fertilizer you have been given. Use some of it and keep the remaining to use in the next planting season. Don’t sell because those that have benefited will not get the next time we shall be issuing again, we shall identify other farmers who are also in need.” said Munanda
“Otherwise I thank the Bungoma County Governor for this project and wish that it continues, we still need more bags because 400 bags are not enough since we have more people who needs the support due to poverty,” added Munanda.
Farmers who benefited revealed their happiness and promised to use the fertilizer well so as to get enough harvest.
“Am called Elizabeth Barasa I come from Makuma am very happy for getting the fertilizer and maize seeds. I will plant so as I get food and get school fees for my children,” she said.
