Property of unknown value was destroyed after a Monday morning fire gutted down one of the dormitories at the Chewoyet Boys High School, in Kapenguria Constituency, West Pokot County.
The Longonot dormitory, which was one of the oldest dormitories in the school, housed 115 students.
Kapenguria OCPD Anthony Wanjuu said that the fire started at 5.00 am when students had gone for their morning studies. “The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault but we are conducting investigations to establish the real cause,” said Mr. Wanjuu
He said that nothing was salvaged in the incident, despite the fire brigade responding to contain the fire.
He confirmed that no one was injured, “The dormitory and property worth millions of shillings were destroyed. Boxes, uniforms, bedding, beds and books were reduced to ashes” he said.
West Pokot sub county deputy county commissioner Mr. Khaliff Abdulahi said the Kenya power officials had been sent to the school to really establish if the fire had been caused by an electric fault.
