Houses torched in Kapenguria over land disputes
Four grass thatched houses were on Thursday evening torched down in Emboasis village, Kapenguria constituency by a group of unknown people over suspected land dispute.
It is said that a crowd of about seven people abruptly came to the village on Wednesday evening with crude weapons and scared away the owners of the houses before they burnt the houses.
Confirming the incident in his office West Pokot County police commander Mathews Kuto said the four families have been having land wrangles with the seven people an issue that could have led to the burning of the houses.

He said Immediately after the culprits committed the incident they managed to escape and are in the hide out as police officers continue with their investigation.
“After finishing their mission the culprits left because they knew they will be arrested. We have launched investigations on the matter and soon the victims will be brought to book” he said.
Kuto has asked the county leadership to seriously address land disputes in the county as cases of land wrangles continue to be experienced.
He said land wrangles is becoming a serious challenge security wise as victims react fast without following the right procedure of solving the dispute.
“Within the county we have many land issues which are not attended to or solved. Sometimes the whole community is subjected to the dispute without fishing out the wrong doers.” he observed.
“This issue need to be addressed by the county land commission before the matter gets out of hand” added Kuto.

He asked residents to respect the law and if they have any issue pertaining land they should channel the issues to relevant government organ whether County or National.
