IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) has fired Procurement Director Mr. Lawy Aura due to delayed sourcing of ballot papers. Mr Aura is the second high profile departure from the electoral body after Director for ICT James Muhati was sent on a compulsory leave due to failure to cooperate in an ongoing audit of ICT systems.
IEBC have been dealing with certain roadblocks when it comes to dealing with the availability of ballot papers. The electoral body was allowed by the court to proceed with the evaluation of firms that are seeking to supply ballot papers after a directive by the Public Procurement Administrative Review was lifted by the high court.
Earlier, IEBC through lawyer Kamau Karori had to defend their decision to go for restricted tendering for the supply of ballot papers and election declaration results forms. The Public Procurement Administrative Review Board had ordered a fresh tender for printing and delivery of ballot papers.
