Nandi Central DC Ahmed Abdullahi has summoned an assistant chief alleged to have neglected 5 children that he sired out of wedlock.

The District Commissioner took the step following a protest by residents of Tulon sub-location who demanded immediate lay off and arrest of their assistant chief Jonathan Kirwa over the allegations.

Abdullah confirmed that Kirwa had been co-habiting with Dorcas Chepkering for several years and had sired the children but had recently separated with the woman on controversial grounds.

He said that the woman was at large and children were under the care of their aging grandfather Wilson Kiptoo Singoei.

“We have completed the investigation and the administrator will have to cater for the children and ensure that they go to school as the council of elders find a lasting solution,” he said.

Abdullahi warned the accused administrator that, “…the matter will go to court if he does not cooperate and harmonize the matter with parties involved.”

During the meeting held at DC’s office in Kapsabet, Kirwa admitted in the presence of Kapsabet District Officer Stella Wanyela and his senior Tulon chief Joseph Ng’etich that he was responsible for the children and dismissed claims that he had neglected them.

Kirwa said that the grandfather of the children had denied him his children and it was not possible for him to cater for them according to Nandi customary law.

“He did not allow me to legalize marriage with the woman but if I am given back my children, I will cater for them,” he said.

Singoei was not at the meeting but had earlier told West Fm that Kirwa had chased the children away when he had sent them to him.

“I even went to his office and he shouted at me that he was not their father,” Singoei said in tears.

He further explained that Kirwa had defied customs by co-habiting his sister-in-law.

“Kirwa’s brother married my daughter who is a sister to this other woman he has sired children with. That is incest,” he claimed.

It was finally resolved in the meeting by Abdullahi that children should go to school and all necessities be provided for them as the matter was being handled by the council of elders with the assistance of the district officer and area chief.

“I direct the district officer and the area chief to ensure that by tomorrow the children are at school and evidence be delivered to my office with immediate effect,” Abdullahi said in the meeting.
