The DEO for Nandi South District Abel Nyamwaya has dismissed claims by a section of media that 50 primary school head teachers had been interdicted by the ministry of education.

Speaking to West Fm in his office the District Education Officer clarified that he dispatched warning letters demanding an explanation from the school heads for walking out of his meeting that was to be held last week on 12th April at Aldai Girls before he arrived.

Nyamwaya termed the claim as “misinforming, exaggerated and biased” saying that his office should have been contacted for clarification over the contents in the letters if they were not clear.

He said that the alleged interdiction was unrealistic since it is not possible to interdict such a number of head teachers at whatever circumstance. (Read:Fifty school heads in Nandi South district receive interdiction letters for walking out of a meeting

According to the officer, the offence committed by the head teachers by walking out of the meeting before his arrival was a sign of ignorance to his office and was therefore in order for his office to issue Warning letters.

“I still insist that they must apologise because that is an administrative procedure. KNUT officials misled them,” he said and further added that he does not intend to threaten anyone’s job.

The head teachers through KNUT district secretary Stephen Misoi said that they decided to leave since the officer had kept them waiting up to late in the afternoon without his arrival or any communication from him.

Nyamwaya insisted that he will not be moved in demand for apologies from the head teachers ahead of Wednesday’s meeting by KNUT officials from the district to discuss the matter as he followed a formal procedure.

KNUT Secretary for Nandi County Steven Misoi however told West Fm that the meeting would discuss on strategies to ensure immediate transfer of the officer whom he accuses as undermining performance in the district by inciting parents against teachers, intimidating and harassing teachers.

He said “Teachers are in fear of what lies ahead of them since it appears that Nyamwaya has decided to frustrate them. They cannot work unless they are assured of their future. ”
