Coffee farmers from western Kenya  benefited from a one  day training  convened by the Coffee Board of Kenya western branch that focused on good governance of  agricultural and manufacturing practices  in the coffee industry that was held in the Bungoma county hall where a total of 150 cooperative society coffee growers attended.

Speaking at the function, the Kenya coffee advisory officer in western province Mr Timothy Otachi affirmed that coffee farming is appropriate in the area due to good soil fertility and warm temperatures with enough rain in the region. If successfully done it will economically uplift the economy of residents of Bungoma County.

“Good Coffee growing will enable this county compete with other counties economically and would also be an added advantage in money generating for the schooling of our children.” said Mr Otachi

The advisory officer urged the cooperative society officials to organize and educate small scale coffee farmers in their areas on the new policies so as to increase the production of quality produce of the product.

The district cooperative officer of Kimilili, the district agricultural officers and coffee research foundation officer were in attendance of the meeting.

The Coffee board of Kenya as a parastatal in the ministry of agriculture is meant to head coffee growers in the region and annually host seminars to update coffee farmers on implementation of new policies.
