The youth in the country have been challenged to take the destiny of their future into their own hands by vying for elective seats set out in the Constitution. 

Addressing more than 2000 youth of the Friends Church drawn from across Bungoma County at Teremi High School in Bungoma Central district, former Local Government minister Musikari Kombo said the youth constitute over 70 per cent of the country’s population insisting that they stand a better chance to decide the leadership of this country at any given time. 

Mr. Kombo appealed to the youth to ignore the old class of politicians with their proverbial saying that ‘the youth are future leaders’ instead come together with a unity of purpose if at all they wish to achieve their political ambitions. 

He said the youth can change the face of Kenya in terms of development by using such forums to change their character and utilize their young energy to initiate development programs in the country, more so Bungoma County. 

While throwing his weight behind Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs minister Eugene Wamalwa, the legislator said time is ripe for the youth to support one of their own while asserting that the Saboti MP is suitable for the highest seat in the country.

 To achieve this he appealed to the youth above 18 years to acquire National Identification cards and subsequently register in large numbers as voters. 

‘’Even if you comprise over 70 pc of Kenya’s   population it will be of no value in terms of political leadership if you cannot register as voters and vote unanimously come the general election,’’ he said. 

 On matters of corruption, Kombo said this country has potential to grow rapidly in all sectors only if leaders stand their heads high with a move to fight corruption. 

He said for any substantial progress in the country corrupt leaders should not be given chance to hold any public office apart from ensuring that the corrupt ones are prosecuted for abuse of public office. 

The one week conference for the Friends Church youth Elgon Region came to an end on Sunday where they youth were sensitized on various topics including the church and politics and also, the youth as agents of change now and beyond.
