Two suspected thieves that have been harassing Malaba residents were today arrested by police officers when they were attempting to steal transformer oil in one of the transformers of Malaba.
Irate public members in Kamuriai Village in Malaba descended upon 33 year old Polycarp Nyakai and the 27 year old Benard Masse with kicks and blows rendering them helpless before they were rescued by police officers. The two are said to have been caught red handed climbing the electrical pole to siphon oil.
Confirming the incident, Teso police OCPD Elphas Korir said that 8 jerry cans intended to help in transporting oil were recovered in a vehicle with foreign identification of UAG627S.
Mr. Korir also said that the two will be arraigned in court immediately the investigations are over. Nyakai who suffered a lot is now undergoing treatment at Kocholya District hospital and will join his friend behind bars when his health condition improves.
The OCPD has asked officers in Malaba to be on high alert and inspect vehicles with foreign identifications to help curb theft and insecurity cases. He said that the two are linked with the many cases of theft happening in Mlaba.
He however, encouraged the public to cooperate with police officers and asked them to report people they suspect to be of ill intentions to police stations and relevant authorities. He vowed that the police officers will not Condon people with ill motives.
