A 30 year old man was on Friday killed in Butula district on claims that he was a motorbike thief.
Confirming the incident, Busia OCPD Kenneth Kimani said the deceased identified as Nelly, died after residents of Burinda village, Butula division stoned him.
Kimani said the deceased was attacked at around 12 noon after two motorbikes were allegedly recovered at his home in Kayamba village, Ugenya district neighboring Butula constituency.
“As the villagers were escorting him to the Bumala patrol base with the motorbikes recovered, he tried to escape from the mob, a move that infuriated them to stone him,” he said, speaking to journalists in Busia town.
He however, cautioned area residents against taking the law into their own hands but instead report to the police station individuals suspected to be thieves to allow the law take its course.
“Let us present suspected individuals of crime to the relevant security officers, so that they can be arraigned in court to face charges against them,” said Kimani.
The OCPD further said the body of the deceased was ferried to the Busia District morgue awaiting postmortem as investigations continue to identify the owners of the two motorbikes recovered.
“We have already launched investigations to ascertain the real owners of the motorbikes recovered from the deceased’s home,” he said.
The incident comes a few days after a father and his eldest son were lynched by angry villagers at Sirisia village, Nambale Constituency after they were allegedly found transporting a stolen cow. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
