A two year old child was killed by flash floods and property worth millions of shillings lost in Walatsi location, Busia County following heavy rains that have pounded the area.
Walatsi ward civic leader Jack Wambulwa said the girl allegedly died after being swept away by flash floods which stormed their house on Monday as she was sleeping.
Speaking to journalists in Busia town, Wambulwa said the deceased's parents were digging trenches to allow out water from their compound which had flooded their compound.
He said the flash floods have left about 20 families with no shelter, adding that several crops were damaged and animals killed.
Wambulwa called on the government to intervene in a matter of urgency and assist families that have been affected by flash floods especially in terms of shelter.
"Humanitarian assistance will help alleviate the suffering which the affected families are going through at the moment," he said. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
